Hi there, I’m Ricky! I do things, sometimes.

Welcome to my website! To my friends who found this somehow, go ahead, point and laugh; to professors checking blog assignments, stop here and click on “Blog” in navigation bar up top; to potential employers, turn back now, there’s nothing useful for you here. If you’re not one of those three, and are someone who googled my name by coincidence, are looking for an obscure topic I may have written on, or if some algorithm picked me up, feel free to browse around.

My name is Ricky Munoz, I am a college student and asipiring historian and geographer from Virginia, US, and this where I will, when I feel like it or am made to by an assignment, post my writing or other fun things. I am (or again, am trying to be) a scholar of Latin American history, particularly of the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, and of regional geography, particularly the geography of suburbs. When those aren’t occupying my brain, I am also interested in other subsections of both history and geography, as well as studies of pop culture, politics (which if I’m smart I will not talk about here), and humor, of all things, who could’ve guessed.

In my free time, I am an improviser, cook, and enjoyer of games of all sorts. If I am forced to, or am otherwise able to muster the brainpower to do so, I may write about these things, and if I’m feeling particularly interested, I may post them here. If I do, feel free to take a look! Otherwise, I’m confused yet glad you’re here, and I hope you enjoy taking a look at my work in between doomscrolling on TikTok if you’re under 30, or doomscrolling on Facebook if you’re over 30.

To end an intro that I will certainly look back on in a year and cringe at, I want to share one of my favorite quotes, a guiding star in my life philosophy, and the cause of far too many a late night cursing my past self.

“I love deadlines. I love the wooshing sound they make as they fly by.”

-Douglas Adams

In all seriousness, I hope you enjoy.
